This striking quilt block is a creative half-log cabin design that blends traditional Americana themes with a bold visual impact. One half of the block follows the classic log cabin layout, constructed with alternating strips of patriotic navy print fabrics and patriotic white print fabrics.

The hearth of the log cabin begins in the upper left corner and features a large red star, which is the crown jewel of the block. The diagonal strips, in lower section of the block, create an asymmetrical appearance in each block, and when joined together, are especially beautiful and form a diamond shape. The star’s position rotates in each of the four designs, so that wherever you position the block, the star is pointing north, for a pleasing symmetrical look.

The four blocks included are upper left (UL), upper right (UR), lower right (LR) and lower left (LL). You have the option of backing the quilt block in the hoop (100% completed in the hoop), or later, joining multiple blocks together then backing with a whole cloth (backing added after hoop). The blocks can be combined with other patriotic blocks to make numerous projects, such as table runners, placemats, quilts, wall hangings, totes, etc. See photos for an example of these blocks combine with other patriotic designs.
